The Model
4 Roles

A venture studio run by members

A traditional venture studio builds companies with employees, on a payroll, over months. Redefine works the other way around: the studio is its members. Experts, Imagineers, Architects and Angels build ventures at live events, without quitting their careers. Do the work or back it with capital: either way, you own a real stake from the first hour.

The Proof
6 Ventures

Real ventures. Real ownership.

None of this lives on a slide. These are working ventures, built by members at live events, with every hour and every stake on record. The people who do the work hold the equity: when one takes off, the upside goes to them. This is what changes when professionals stop advising founders and start becoming them.

These are the next sessions on the calendar, each open for registration now. Every seat earns the same way: you contribute in the room, the Event Report records it, and the cash and equity you generate are yours. How the four formats fit together is explained on the About page. Here, you pick a date and claim your seat.

Built by people who ship

Senior professionals who decided to stop advising from the sidelines and start building in the room. They bring the judgment of long careers and the appetite to put it back to work, on real ventures with real ownership at stake. The result behaves less like a club and more like a studio floor, where reputations are earned by what gets shipped.

Version 1.0 · Last updated 25 September 2026

This policy explains what personal data Redefine collects when you visit redefine.nl, become a member, use the studio apps or come to an event, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what rights you have. We wrote it to match what the platform actually does.

1. Who we are

Redefine is an Amsterdam venture studio. We are the controller of the personal data described here, under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Dutch implementation act (UAVG).

ControllerRedefine
AddressSchapensteeg 16B, 1017 BG Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Privacy contacthello@redefine.nl (subject “Privacy”)

Members also receive the GDPR notice in Appendix C of the Master Terms. That appendix summarises the same processing; this policy is the complete version and covers visitors and other people we deal with too.

2. What we collect and why

We only collect what we need for the purposes below. For each, we name the legal basis the GDPR requires: contract (needed to provide what you signed up for, Art. 6(1)(b)), legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)), legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f), balanced against your interests), or consent (Art. 6(1)(a), which you can withdraw at any time).

Your account

Name, email address and password, or the name, email address and profile photo your sign-in provider shares when you sign in with Google. Your password is handled by our authentication provider and stored only as a secure hash; we never see it. When you choose a password we check whether it appears in known data breaches: only the first five characters of a hash of the password leave your browser, so the password itself is never shared. If you turn on two-factor authentication, we store the authenticator factor. Basis: contract.

Your profile

What you choose to add: photo, title, location, bio, skills, rate, links, story chapters, the ventures you work on and your membership tier. Basis: contract. Section 3 explains who can see it.

Membership and venture records

Your tier and how you hold it (subscription, organisation licence or invitation), invitations and applications, seats and roles at events, offers and contracts, hours and contributions, Invested Value and equity positions, funding requests, commitments, signatures and consents, report records, the IP register, and a log of the legal documents you accepted and when. These records are what your ownership rests on, so we keep them carefully. Basis: contract; legal obligation for tax and bookkeeping records; legitimate interest for the equity and IP registers, the audit trail and dispute resolution.

Payments

Paid memberships and licences are handled by Stripe. We receive your name, email address, billing address, VAT number where given, the brand, last four digits and expiry date of your card, and the status of your subscription and invoices. We never receive or store your full card number. Basis: contract; legal obligation for invoices.

Business accounts

For an organisation: its name, legal name, Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number, VAT number, address, billing contact and the people it invites. A KvK number is checked against the Dutch business register. The organisation’s owners and admins see who holds one of its licences. Basis: contract.

What you create

Posts, comments and reactions; messages and conversations; event pages, boards, tasks and projects; venture pages and investor materials; files and images you upload. Messages are visible to the people in the conversation. Redefine staff look at your content only when needed to give support, keep the platform safe or meet a legal obligation. Basis: contract.

Events

Ticket reservations, seat applications and your role at an event. At Labs we may take photos and recordings; you can opt out at registration or on the day. Dietary and accessibility needs are used only with your consent and deleted within 30 days after the event. Basis: contract; consent for dietary and accessibility needs; legitimate interest for event photos, with the right to opt out.

3D scans and avatars

Imagineers and Architects can be scanned so that an avatar represents them at the table. We process the scan and the avatar only with your explicit consent. Basis: explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a) where applicable), which you can withdraw at any time.

Email and notifications

We send emails you need, such as confirmations, invitations, security messages and notices about your seats, offers and ventures. Newsletters and other updates are sent only if you agreed to that topic, and every one carries an unsubscribe link. We keep a record of what was sent so a message is never sent twice. We do not currently send text messages; if we add them, it will be only with your separate consent. Basis: contract for service emails; consent for newsletters and updates.

Contact, chat and requests

When you use the chat, a contact form, a ticket reservation or an application form, we receive your name, email address and message, and reply personally. Basis: legitimate interest in answering you, or steps before a contract.

Usage analytics

Only if you switch on “Usage analytics” under Privacy & security do we record page views: the page, the referring page, the screen width, a random session number and, if you are signed in, your member id. This stays in our own database. We use no third-party analytics or advertising trackers. Basis: consent.

Security and technical data

Our hosting provider processes your IP address and browser details to deliver the site, block abuse and limit how often forms can be sent. Basis: legitimate interest in a secure, working service.

People we may work with

To find partners, sponsors, venues and future members, we keep business contact details of people outside the platform: name, role, organisation, public professional links and notes of our contact. This comes from public sources, such as public event listings and company websites, or from you directly. You can ask us to remove you, and we keep a short record so that you are not added again. Basis: legitimate interest in developing the studio.

3. What other people can see

  • Your profile is public. Your name, photo, title, bio, skills and the ventures you work on appear in the members directory and on your member page, which anyone can open, including people who are not signed in. Search engines may index it. You decide what you add, and you can change or remove it at any time.
  • Posts marked public can be read by anyone; other posts only by signed-in members.
  • Venture participants see the contribution and equity records of the ventures they take part in, as the Master Terms require. The Architect of a venture sees the contributions to it.
  • Organisations that pay for your membership see that you hold one of their licences.
  • Admins of Redefine see membership, billing and moderation information needed to run the studio.

4. Genie, our AI assistant

Genie helps members draft venture briefs, boards, roles and event plans, and writes short introductions on Home. When you use it, we send your message and the context it needs (for example the brief and board of the venture you are working on) to OpenRouter, which passes it to the AI model that answers. We record each request (who, which feature, cost) to keep usage within budget. We do not sell this content or use it for advertising.

Figures that affect ownership, such as Invested Value, equity and fees, are never produced by AI: they are calculated by fixed formulas under the Master Terms. Genie makes suggestions; you decide what to keep.

5. Who we share data with

We never sell personal data. We share it only with the service providers below, who process it on our behalf under a data processing agreement, and with the people described in section 3.

We may also share data with our legal and tax advisers under confidentiality, and with authorities where the law requires it.

6. Data outside the EU

Our database is in the EU. Some providers above are based in, or can process data in, the United States. Such transfers take place under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, or under the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

7. How long we keep it

When something is deleted, we keep a short record that it was removed and when, so it stays removed.

8. Cookies and browser storage

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The site keeps a few things in your browser’s local storage so it works: your sign-in session, your preferences, unsent drafts and changes waiting to sync when you are offline. Our hosting provider may set a strictly necessary security cookie to block automated abuse. Usage analytics runs only with your consent (section 2).

9. Security

All traffic is encrypted. Access to data in our database is checked per record, so members and staff can reach only what their role allows. You can protect your account with two-factor authentication, and once it is on, the server requires it. Passwords that appear in known breaches are refused. If a breach affecting your data occurs, we report it to the Dutch Data Protection Authority and inform you where the law requires.

10. Your rights

You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected, to have it erased where we are not required to keep it, to restrict or object to its processing (including our legitimate interests), to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. Much of this you can do yourself in your profile and under Privacy & security. For anything else, email hello@redefine.nl. We answer within one month and may ask you to confirm your identity.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

11. Other points

  • Age. Membership is for people aged 18 and over.
  • Automated decisions. We make no decisions about you by automated means alone that have legal or similarly significant effects.
  • Changes. When we change this policy, we update the version and date above. Members are told about material changes before they take effect.

12. Contact

Questions about this policy or your data: hello@redefine.nl, or by post to Redefine, Schapensteeg 16B, 1017 BG Amsterdam.

01 · Build track
The builder path
Earn equity through work.
Three ways to build inside Redefine, from contributing remotely to running the room. Every path pays from the same Invested Value pool, in the mix the run carries: cash, equity, or both, documented against the same formula. Join free as an Expert and earn from your first event. Step up to Imagineer when you want to lead tables and keep more of every share. Apply for Architect when you are ready to design the rooms other people earn in. The mechanics below show exactly where every euro, cash or equity, ends up, and you can move up whenever you are ready.
Equity mechanics
Where your earnings go
Both fees come out of the total Invested Value pool before anything is distributed. Two parallel deductions from one base: neither fee is calculated on the remainder after the other.

◆
Both are calculated from the same two numbers: your verified rate and your logged hours, and both appear in the Event Report next to everyone else’s. One flat deduction from the gross pool, same net for both. The cash portion of the 15% is Redefine’s revenue; the equity portion is the Redefine stake in the venture. Same 15%, two currencies. And 75% is a rate on hours, not a rate on Experts: an Expert who contributes funding or equipment keeps 85% of it, like any funder, because the Architect fee does not touch capital. Everything is itemised in the Event Report, disputable for 14 days. Fee Schedule v4.2.
Rates
Verified once
Every rate here is verified, and every member can see every other member’s.
Ownership on this platform is your rate multiplied by your hours. That means an unverified rate is not a detail, it is a way to take equity from the people sitting next to you. So we verify every rate once, against the market, and then we make it visible to fellow members.
You still set your own number. We are confirming it reflects what your expertise actually commands, not judging whether you are worth it. Employed and never sent an invoice? Your rate is set against the market rate for your expertise and experience. There is no band to fit into: your rate is yours. Once the skill trees are built, some of the perks you unlock there will move it.

There are no rate bands. Every member has a rate of their own, verified once. Once the skill trees are built, some of the perks they unlock will move your rate.

Rates are visible to members, not to the public web. Most of our members have employers, and what you are worth is not their business.

The Angel path
Fund what you watched.
A different path entirely. You do not build. You back the teams you saw deliver under real pressure. There is no membership fee and there are no pitch decks: you attend Nexus events as an observer, watch how a team scopes, argues, and ships when the clock is real, and only then decide where your capital goes. Every ownership claim is backed by documented Invested Value, so you are pricing work you witnessed, not promises you were shown. Evidence first, capital second.

03 · Operate track
Run what gets built
Cash work inside live ventures.
Builders work on the business and it is the only work that earns equity here. Operators work in the business: service delivery, support, fulfilment, back office. Cash on commercial terms, under a separate agreement, entirely outside the venture-building framework. No Invested Value, no Virtual Shares, no platform fee, no dispute window, no equity of any kind.
It is not a membership tier and it does not compete with one. It exists so a Builder does not become an Operator by default: a venture that reaches customers needs someone to run it, and it does not have to be the person who built it.
04 · Pricing FAQ
Straight answers
Fair questions, straight answers.
The questions prospective members actually ask before committing, answered the way we answer them in the room.
No subscription, no card. Nexus events are included and you join remotely. Craft Labs are priced per seat, set per event between €35 and €95. Guests are welcome, but only members claim paid work from the task board and earn Invested Value there, at standard fees. Skill Labs carry their own price per event, and as a member you pay 20% less than non-members. Culture Labs are members only, priced per seat.

Every Nexus produces one Invested Value pool. Two deductions come out of it before anything is distributed: 15% of the pool to Redefine, and 10% of the Experts’ portion to the Architect who hosted the room. Nothing is deducted twice. You keep 75% of your share, in whichever mix of cash and equity the run pays out.
When you want to negotiate rather than accept. Three things change. You lead tables in person instead of contributing remotely. You are exempt from the 10% Architect fee, so your retention goes from 75% to 85%. And you can counter-offer on the reward mix: the Architect sets the cash and equity terms for a run, and as an Imagineer you can come back with different ones before you commit. Experts see the terms in the brief and either take the event or pass on it.

You also get analytics across the ventures you lead. Ventures themselves are created by Architects.
Upgrades take effect immediately with prorated billing. Downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle. Equity is never affected by tier changes.
It stays yours. Cancelling ends your access to events and platform tools, but your documented Invested Value and the Virtual Shares it earned are permanently recorded. They keep diluting as new contributions enter the pool, as everyone’s do. If a venture reaches break-even and incorporates, you receive your shares whether you are still a member or not.
Both fees come out of the total Invested Value pool for an event, before anything is distributed. 15% of the pool to Redefine. Every member, every venture, no exceptions. 10% of the Invested Value that Experts earned from hours, to the Architect who hosted the room. Imagineers and Architects do not contribute to this, and neither does capital or any other contributed resource, whoever contributed it. The Architect fee is a share of directed work, not a share of money.

No fee is charged on top of another fee. What that leaves you: 75% as an Expert, 85% as an Imagineer or Architect. An Architect also receives that 10% override on the Experts’ portion at events they host.

Worked example. A Nexus produces a €100,000 pool. Experts contributed €60,000 of it, Imagineers €25,000, the Architect €15,000. Redefine takes €15,000. The Architect takes €6,000, being 10% of the Experts’ €60,000. Every Expert keeps 75% of their own share, every Imagineer 85%, and the Architect keeps 85% of theirs plus the €6,000.

One clarification worth stating plainly, because it will otherwise be found in an Event Report and argued about: 75% is a rate on hours, not a rate on Experts. An Expert who contributes funding or equipment keeps 85% of it, like any other funder, because the Architect fee does not apply to capital.

Both fees apply to cash and equity alike, and they are taken in the same form as the payout. The cash portion of our 15% is revenue. The equity portion is the Redefine stake in the venture. Same 15%, two currencies. Everything is itemised in the Event Report and disputable for 14 days.
Yes. The three tracks are independent: Build (the membership tiers) earns equity through work, Invest (Angel) allocates capital, and Operate is cash work inside live ventures on commercial terms, outside the venture-building framework. You can be an Imagineer earning equity AND an Angel deploying capital into other ventures. Many members do both.
€99 buys a physical seat at the table for one Nexus event, open to Experts. You earn your normal cash and equity for the day.
